Cunningham Cabin

A violent dark side to the ranch involves a gunfight in April of 1893. Two wranglers from Montana approached Pierce Cunningham in the fall of 92 looking to buy hay for their horses. A deal was struck that included the strangers wintering over on the ranch. Rumors spread that the two men were horse thieves. In the spring a man claiming to be a U.S. Marshal along with deputies rode into Jackson from Idaho. They gathered a posse from Jackson to try and apprehend the alleged rustlers. Under the cover of darkness they surrounded the Cunningham cabin and waited for daybreak. As morning approached and the alleged rustlers left the cabin they were gunned down in a hail of bullets. While Cunning ham was never involved with the incident he did feel the brands on the horses had been altered. The truth of the Marshall's identity and the allegations were never proven.

Workamping

Today I rerouted cable for TVs in the condos we rent here at the park as well as put together an entertainment center for TV and Direct TV box for two condos. Started the morning fixing a leaking drain in kitchen sink where Gilda washes her cooking utensils after her shift cooking in the gazebo grill for park guests. So many different things to do but thats what makes it interesting. Looking forward to the weekend off to work on a new painting.

Schwabacher's Landing

Shcwabacher's landing is open after being closed for a year. As Gilda and I walked along the stream with beaver dams and nesting ducks we thought what a terrible waist not to have the landing open for all that time. I have explored a lot of this area and this is to me the most beautiful spot in Teton National Park. The reflections of the Tetons in the river is amazing to say the least and the water is so calm and smooth it leaves you with a feeling of peace and tranquility. I will post the Pics as soon as I can.

Trip to Alpine, Wy.

Made the 70 mile drive to Alpine, Wy. Sat. to see our great friends and fellow artist T.J. [Tim] and Lori Thompson. They were in an art show there in conjunction with a Mountain Man Rendezvous. Tim is working on a new painting series of the life of Mountain men and it looks like it will be a success. It was great seeing them and we are looking forward to there visit to the campground where we work and live on Monday.

Snow and sleet today cold for June
Off today from work. Working in a campground always has a new task and is fun and you can use skills you have developed over the years. Mine is carpentry. Yesterday spent the day installing screen around an existing gazebo for an outdoor cook area for the campground to offer Bison burgers as well as other grill favorites. Then finished out the day on a zero turn mower mowing sites. Then in the evening worked on a Pronghorn painting in the RV. I work on studio pieces in the rv in the evening and do plein air [painting on location] on days off weather permitting. It is is funny how the weather is out here, today we had sleet yesterday I was mowing.
While full time RVing you can find work in campgrounds, National Parks and State Parks as well as resorts, restaurants, gift shops and many more. Jobs are plentiful if you are willing to travel. There are websites devoted to these jobs such as www.coolworks.com and www.workampernews.com
While on a photo adventure in Teton National Park Gilda and I encountered this Grizzly and her two cubs.

PLEIN AIR NEAR STRING LAKE

Painting while full time RVing

Painting plein air landscapes while in locations you are staying for the summer helps you connect with the environment. It has always been hard for me to paint the West while living in the Midwest. I am now near Teton National Park for the summer working for my site and pay so I can paint the area as well as do a couple of Art Shows while here.
